The former Roman settlement of Danum is one of the largest and oldest boroughs in the UK and is ideally situated in the centre of England. It is served by excellent road and rail links to the rest of the country and Europe. - There is an extremely large market, which is held every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday in the centre of town where you can buy everything from fruit and vegetables to designer clothes. There is also a second hand / antique market on a Wednesday.
- The Lakeside Village, a shopping centre designed along the lines of the American style shopping mall, is a short bus journey from the town centre.
- The new Frenchgate Interchange offers a fantastic choice of names all under one roof, offering access to the bus and train stations as well.
- Meadowhall, near Sheffield is the largest shopping centre in Europe, and is 20 minutes by train from Doncaster station.

- There are a variety of leisure and entertainment facilities in Doncaster.

- Open air concerts are held at The Keepmoat stadium – look out for Elton John playing in July 2008.
Local Attractions
- Brodsworth Hall, nearby, is one of England’s most complete surviving Victorian country houses. The house and gardens have been restored to their 19th Century state. The gardens feature terraces and croquet lawns bordered by evergreen shrubberies and marble statues.
- Cusworth Hall is a 18th Century country house set in extensive landscaped parkland and is home to the Museum of South Yorkshire Life.
- Conisbrough Castle, 7 miles from the town centre dates back to the 12th Century and boasts the finest Circular Norman Keep Tower in the UK.
- Doncaster Rovers Football Club play in League One which is two divisions below the Premiership. They have had their best season for 50 years and have been promoted to the Coca Cola Championship. Tickets cost between £8 and £22.
- Doncaster Racecourse is home to the oldest Classic – the St. Leger and is currently being redeveloped so its facilities will be amongst the best in the country. There are several race meetings throughout the year.
